Dr. Kunz is a professor at the Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He was born and grew up in Germany where his interest in technology first Sprouted. He now is a highly regarded upon professor in computer engineering and autonomous systems at Carleton University. Here are some key points from his presentation:
Society has continued through difficult or challenging times before.
People are often pessimistic, and better at imagining the bad side of things.
AI will replace some jobs, previous technological innovations have done that.
However, it will also create others.
A failed prediction about AI was regarding radiologists.
In 2016, Geoffrey Hinton predicted that AI would surpass people in the field within 5 years.
In 2025, radiologists are still in demand.
Many previous predictions are unlikely to happen
Many predictions are very general
Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning in particular will change some fields.
Impact won’t be the same in all areas of life/work, because some sectors prefer human interaction or dexterity, such as:
Trades
Health Care
Hospitality
Learn to use AI, such as asking better questions, being able to verify responses, and combine answers with your own critical thinking.
Develop skills hard for a machine to accomplish:
Critical thinking
Problem solving
Communication/Storytelling
Leadership and teamwork
Ethical judgement
Learn how to learn
Chose careers based on interests and adaptability
AI will help ambitious people become even better
